In 2020, prompted by the havoc Covid had imposed on artists, novelist Patricia V. Davis decided to produce a feature thriller from a screenplay she'd written. With little experience and a tiny budget, she pulled together a crew and cast of actors, all incredibly talented and hungry for work. It seemed an impossible idea, but her film will be making the rounds of film festivals in the fall of 2022. How did she and her team make an indie feature that has impressive production value for its budget; how did they procure venues, actors, crew, interns, extras, and volunteers? What plans do they have for distribution? What film festival pitfalls did they avoid, and what would they do differently next time? This start-to-finish primer tells all.
